It’s fall which means… apple picking, apple cider, apple pie, apple everything! We have just one more to add to the list this year, and that’s apple in skincare.

This delicious and healthy fruit is surprisingly just as delectable to put on your face as it is to eat! Apples are known to be packed with antioxidants, making them super nutritious, but did you know that these antioxidants have a ton of benefits for your skin like helping fight toxins and neutralizing free radicals? By fighting free radicals from the environment, it can actually help promote younger-looking skin. Try our Cellagen Renewal Serum, which blends apple extract and hyaluronic acid for a fresher, youthful glow!

Apple in the form of apple cider vinegar has natural astringent properties, which makes it a terrific ingredient to help cleanse your skin. It’s a key ingredient in our Clarifying Herbal Astringent which can help tighten pores, remove the last traces of cleanser and makeup, and decrease sebum flow to dry out oily skin. Apple cider vinegar has even been known to assist the treatment of acne.

But, our all-time favorite benefit of apple extract this time of year is that it moisturizes and helps soften skin. As the weather gets colder, our skin gets drier, and could use some added hydration! Our Apricot Night Cream was specifically formulated for extra dry skin using a soothing blend of plant-based moisturizers like apple extract, sweet almond oil and apricot kernel oil. Need a moisturizing boost for tired eyes? Try our Azulene Eye Cream that contains apple extract, macadamia and jojoba oil.

Get the most out of your favorite fall ingredient, and feed your skin with some apple love this season!

You may have seen our Hyaluronic Acid Serum around, so we’re here to answer some FAQ’s and give you the low-down on what makes this bottle an absolute skincare must!

Let’s start with the basics. What exactly is hyaluronic acid? Despite the word “acid” in its name, Hyaluronic Acid is actually quite gentle. Don’t let that fool you, it is one of nature’s most powerful moisturizing ingredients. Hyaluronic Acid has become popular in skincare because one molecule can hold up 1,000 times its weight in water! Our body produces hyaluronic acid naturally in order to maintain moisture. It can be found in all parts of your body including your joints, hair, eyes and nerves, but 50% of your body’s hyaluronic acid is in your skin!

Where do you get hyaluronic acid? For a long time, skincare companies were deriving their hyaluronic acid from animal sources, mainly rooster combs… But we are so not about that! Our hyaluronic acid comes from cultured beets and other vegetable sources. Our serum is 100% vegan and cruelty free!

Why can’t I find hyaluronic acid listed in the ingredients? We choose to use Sodium Hyaluronate, the salt molecule from Hyaluronic Acid, in our products. It is a smaller molecule, which means it may absorb deeper and easier into your skin, for maximum benefits!

Why does it come in a blue bottle? We put a lot of love into creating our serum, and we want to make sure it’s well protected. The blue bottle is to prevent oxidation from occurring, which causes the molecules to lose their hydrating superpowers. Be sure to also store in a cool, dark place- the medicine cabinet in your bathroom is perfect!

Who benefits from hyaluronic acid? You! Whether you have dry skin or oily skin, everyone’s skin could use a hyaluronic acid boost. Our serum works to retain moisture in your skin, which plumps up skin and can even help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven tone. It also helps protect the collagen in your skin, promotes elasticity and can make your skin look firmer and more youthful-looking with each use!

The best part? It’s only 24.99 and you only need a few drops with each use! Get yours here!

Winter has been fierce, and our skin has been thirsty for some moisture! But why exactly does our skin get SO dry in the winter?

On top of dropping temperatures, the air is much drier in the winter. This causes the skin to lose its ability to hold moisture because water is literally evaporating from our skin! Some of our favorite things to combat the cold, like indoor heating and hot showers, are also two major culprits of dry winter skin. (Indoor heating can drop humidity levels in our homes, and hot showers can strip the natural oils from our skin.

As we get ready for some warmer weather and more sunny days, let’s give our skin some extra love to recover from the winter.

Looking for an everyday facial cleanser that doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight and dry? Our ADE Creamy Fruit Oil Cleanser is full of Sunflower Seed Oil that is rich in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids that gives skin an extra moisture boost!

The start of a new school year is here! For skin that’s fresh for fall, keep your skincare routine simple: Exfoliate. Cleanse. Tone. Moisturize.

1) Exfoliator

Start your year—and every day—refreshed. Best-selling Apricot Gentle Facial Scrub is kind enough on skin for daily use. In the morning, a small amount helps slough away dead skin cells from overnight cell turnover. With apricot kernel oil, walnut shell powder and oat kernel flour to reveal soft, smooth skin.

2) Cleanser

Our daily cleansers for oily and dry skin types are head of the class. Clarifying Facial Wash combats oil without drying, thanks to soothing aloe vera and extracts of cucumber, sea kelp, birch bark and lavender. Creamy Fruit Oil Cleanser removes makeup and moisturizes as it cleans with avocado, apricot kernel and sweet almond oils rich in vitamin E.

3) Toner

In our book, moisturizer prep is just as important as exam prep! Aloe Vera Complexion Toner & Freshener eliminates leftover dirt and makeup while cooling, hydrating and revitalizing skin—all without alcohol, a common ingredient in toner that actually dries skin. For combination/oily types, Clarifying Herbal Astringent gently removes soap residue and dead skin with sulfur and zinc for added oil reduction.

4) Moisturizer

Oil-free, fragrance-free, with SPF, ceramide-enriched, you name it—our variety of facial moisturizers will help you face a new school year, no matter your skin type. Every Earth Science moisturizer or cream is packed with hyaluronic acid, a natural moisturizing component of human skin that can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. Superior at maintaining skin’s hydration, elasticity and suppleness, ours is sourced from cultured sugar beets or other vegetable sources (never from animals!).

And, there you have it. Clean slate, clean skin!

It’s been a hot summer so far, and the dog days are still upon us!

Do you know what the dog days of summer actually are? We love dogs (especially those rescued by the incredible humans over at Best Friends Animal Society), but the dog days of summer historically reference the period from July to August in which Sirius, the Dog Star, occupies the same region of the sky as our sun. Although the Romans believed differently, it has no effect on the planet’s temperature and no connection to the oppressive heat the summer months bring. Still, to help keep your cool through the home stretch, consider these skincare survival tips:

Do a deep clean. Switch out your daily cleanser for something with a little more kick to combat sweat and grime, like our Clarifying Facial Wash with vitamins, antioxidants and antibacterial agents like birch bark, rosemary and grapefruit extracts. For sensitive skin, we make a fragrance-free version too.

Stay out of the sun. We know, we know—impossible. Your best bet is to always use sun protection. While a wide-brimmed hat trumps everything, a layer of SPF is also imperative. Our Almond-Aloe Moisturizer SPF 15 offers silky, light, all-over protection for outside time around your busy life.

Go naked. On your face! Less is always more during the summer, during which dirt, sweat and pollution are likely to combine with your foundation or BB cream in more humid climates. So, forget looking flawless and let your natural glow carry you. The more often you go without makeup, the more your pores will thank you!

If you have to wear it for a special occasion, go with a non-greasy remover like Chamomile & Green Tea Eye Makeup Remover for an easy, gentle rinse-off.

Exfoliate—sometimes, but not all the time. Removing dead skin cells is key to keeping skin fresh and clear, but too much removal can lead to sun sensitivity. Cut back to one night per week during the hot summer months with a gentle fruit acid serum like Fruit Actives Perfecting Lotion. If you accidentally find yourself a little too sun-kissed, Apricot Gentle Facial Scrub can slough away flaking skin on face or body once the burn has healed.

Have a cold one. Skip the hot shower! Try to tolerate a cooler temperature while bathing so as not to strip your skin of its oils. Before drying off completely, moisturize while skin is still damp. A body lotion like our Multi-Therapy Ceramide Healthy Skin Lotion will create a nourishing layer that locks in moisture to keep skin hydrated. To restore moisture on your face, try Healthy Skin Ceramide Facial Lotion.

Eat your H2O. In addition to drinking plenty of water daily (shoot for half your weight in ounces), snacking on fruits and veggies with high water content is a great way to naturally support hydration—inside and out! The following fruits and veggies are made of more than 90 percent water, so add them to your grocery list:

  • Grapefruit, strawberries, watermelon and cantaloupe
  • Cucumber, zucchini, celery and radishes
  • Spinach and cabbage
  • Sweet peppers and tomatoes

To really boost moisture for plumper, smoother skin, apply Maximum Hydration Hyaluronic Acid Serum morning and night. This essential element in human skin can hold 1,000 times its weight in water, so skin won’t feel parched.

Grown daughter kisses her mother on the cheek in a cafe. It’s pretty often that we’re reminded Mom was right. About (mostly) everything. To celebrate Mother’s Day, we’re sharing our five favorite beauty tips from Mom that were probably annoying at some point but are now—let’s face it—total truth. Thanks, moms!

1) Never go to sleep with makeup on

Makeup holds onto dirt and pollution. Not only does wearing it to bed contribute to breakouts and early aging, it stains our sheets! A gentle eye makeup remover like Chamomile & Green Tea Eye Makeup Remover does the hard work without irritating skin or sacrificing lashes, leaving nothing behind but room for pores to breathe.

2) Schedule time for “me” time

When we take the time to practice self-care, we can actually return to our work with an improved focus. Whatever it is that mentally or physically slows you down—journaling, meditating, flowing through a few sun salutations, or soaking in the tub with our Papaya Glycolic Radiant Skin Masque on—do that thing daily. That way, it becomes part of a routine, not a luxury or something to squeeze into your schedule.

3) Don’t wash your hair every day

Washing hair daily can actually strip locks of their natural oils, leading to dry, brittle strands—especially for coarse or curly hair types and processed hair. Try washing every other day or every three days. (This is where that wide-brimmed hat doubles in function!) To further strengthen and nourish hair, follow up after washing with a deep conditioning treatment like Olive & Avocado Hair Masque.

4) Have fun in the sun, but protect your skin

From lathering us in sunblock when we were kiddos to donning their fabulous wide-brimmed hats, moms know best. Sun damage is a significant precursor of skin cancer, not to mention a contributor of premature aging. For an everyday moisturizer with added SPF boost, our Almond-Aloe Moisturizer with SPF 15 is just the thing to hydrate the face and help protect it from UVB and UVA rays—without any harmful chemicals.

5) Get plenty of rest

They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing! Our skin cells turn over most rapidly at night, peaking around 2 am. The sooner we get to sleep at night, the faster our skin cells regenerate so skin can repair itself. Easier said than done, right? We try to be realistic. So thankfully, for mornings after long nights, there’s Azulene Eye Cream to combat puffiness and stubborn dark circles.

A new school year is just around the corner and beautiful skin is always in style! We have some tips to get a fresh start for your skin type…

Although tight, flakey, and dull are never words we want to use to describe our skin, they can often be effects of seasonal changes and the cooler weather. Celebrate the fall season with a few tips for maintaining a glowing complexion through the winter months.

Hydrate:
Staying hydrated both inside and out is key to keeping skin looking its best. Drinking plenty of water can help maintain skin’s moisture from the inside, while using a hydrating serum like our Maximum Hydration Hyaluronic Acid Serum protects, hydrates, and soothes skin.

Exfoliate:
Stimulating the growth of new skin cells is important for a healthy complexion. Gently exfoliating to remove the outermost layer can reveal glowing skin. Choosing an exfoliator that does not dry skin out, like our Apricot Gentle Facial Scrub, can give you a luminous complexion without over-cleansing already parched winter skin. Using our Apricot Gentle Facial Scrub made with crushed walnut shells rather than harmful micro-beads, is not only better for you, but also better for our planet.

Protect:
Your skin will thank you for creating a healthy barrier against the elements. A moisturizer with sun defense like our SPF 30 Protective Day Cream or our Almond-Aloe Moisturizer SPF 15+ are perfect for year round protection to fight against premature aging and wrinkling as well as offering protection from UVA/UVB rays.

Detoxify:
A weekly mask can help to polish and purify facial skin to alleviate dullness or flaking. A mild, yet effective mask takes only a few minutes for instantaneous results. Try our Papaya-Glycolic Radiant Skin Masque for a three-in-one treatment that gently loosens dull skin cells, clears pores, and polishes away impurities. With no artificial fragrances, colors, mineral oil, gluten, or parabens, renewed skin is a treatment away.

Combine:
Since the drying effect of the cold months leaves skin parched, don’t be afraid to add extra moisture and care by layering products. Adding a serum, like our Cellagen Renewal Serum or our Maximum Hydration Hyaluronic Acid Serum, underneath a daily moisturizer can boost moisture and instantly improve skin’s tone and texture.

Giving skin extra care and pampering during the winter months can mean the difference between a dull, dry complexion and a healthy, glowing complexion.
