ginsium C blog image 1000pxI was recently asked about one of our lesser-known products, Ginsium-C (full name, Active Age Defense Ginsium-C Skin Lightening Cream). Where does the name “Ginsium-C” come from? Does this cream really work? Ginsium-C happens to be one of my personal favorites, so of course I was eager to share this information. Now, let me tell you a little bit about it.

Ginsium-C is a play on words that uses a clever combination of some of the active ingredients in the formula: ginseng and, more importantly, vitamin C. Ginseng soothes and firms the skin while vitamin C helps to diminish the appearance of dark spots. There are a couple different types of vitamin C in this formula, ascorbic acid and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate. Both help to inhibit the production of melanin (too much melanin causes dark spots), work as anti-oxidants and may promote the synthesis of collagen in the skin. Ginsium-C also contains the key ingredient licorice root extract, which can soothe sensitive skin and add additional skin brightening and lightening benefits.

Ginsium-C is actually a very unique product, in that it can be used on the face, hands, arms or other area that has dark spots in need of lightening. Because it does not contain bleach, it works gradually to improve the skin. Follow these tips to get the best results when using this cream:

1.         Apply twice a day.

If you wash and tone your face, apply Ginsium-C directly after. Apply morning and evening before bed.

2.         Apply directly to skin.

You may apply another cream on top of Ginsium-C if needed, but not underneath.

3.         Always use sun protection with this product.

Ginsium-C works by blocking the new production of melanin, so the existing (dark spots) must be lost in the normal 28-day cycle of skin cell turnover. Make sure to wear a hat, appropriate clothing and sunblock to protect the skin and enjoy the results of this excellent product.

It turns out there is quite a bit in this product’s name!

glutenfree symbol FBWe receive a lot of inquiries about gluten in our products.  This prompted us to ask the question, does gluten in personal care products pose a problem to those with a gluten sensitivity or Celiac Disease?  Read on to find out.

Current scientific research considers products formulated with gluten safe for use by those with Celiac Disease or gluten sensitivity.  Michael F. Picco, M.D, a gastroenterologist with the Mayo Clinic asserts, “Gluten-containing skin care products and cosmetics aren’t a problem unless you accidentally swallow them. For this reason, avoid using such products on your lips or around your mouth.” He goes on to say that even a skin reaction to gluten (dermatitis herpetiformis or DH) would be caused by the ingestion of gluten, not by the topical use. (

Dr. Alessio Fasano, Medical Director of the Center for Celiac Research, University of Maryland, has found that “…the application of gluten containing products to the skin should not be a problem, unless you have skin lesions that allow gluten to be absorbed systemically in large quantities.” (

Notwithstanding these findings from the medical community, there appear to be gluten sensitive people who say they are reacting to gluten in topical application. ( In-Shampoo.htm).

It appears from the scientific evidence that most gluten sensitive consumers do not need to be concerned about gluten in personal care products, but some might still want to exercise caution.  For this reason, we will provide specific information on our website calling out “gluten-free” products for those who wish to avoid them.

With the start of a New Year, comes an opportunity to make a New Year’s Resolution. Some of us think resolutions are silly, but some of us see them as a chance to improve ourselves.  When it comes to taking care of your skin, a few easy changes to an already existing facial skin care regimen can significantly improve the skin you’re in.

Let’s start by re-evaluating the basics:

1.    Drinking Lots of Water

So this isn’t the most exciting reminder, but it is important!

Water keeps the skin hydrated so it can continue to look its best. Also, remember to avoid excess caffeine as it dehydrates and can leave your skin with a dry feeling or, worse, it can emphasize the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

2.     Sleep

Ah, we all want more and can’t seem to get enough! Our bodies, namely our skin, regenerate while we sleep so it is important to relax, renew and restore with adequate sleep every evening.

3.    Treat Yourself: At Home Facials

An at home facial does not have to be fancy, it can be simple yet still very effective. Try adding a mask or peel once a month to draw out impurities on normal to oily/combination skin. Peels as well as scrubs work well for smoothing and softening dry or mature skin. Check out these excellent options:

4.    Be Consistent

Washing, toning and moisturizing the skin in the morning and evening before bed is an excellent habit to have! But, in reality, not all of us have the time to do so. A helpful idea is to pick a time, morning or evening, and commit to being consistent day after day. Wash, tone and moisturize the skin to keep it hydrated, smooth and free of impurities.

5.      Reevaluate Your Products

Just as we change from year to year our skin does, too! Many factors in our daily lives can influence how our skin will react to the world around us. Questions to consider: Does my facial cleanser feel like it “cleans” enough? Am I seeing a lot of residue or makeup after using my toner? Does my face feel tight or dry and it has not in the past?

A great all-purpose, family friendly cleanser is our Fragrance Free Clarifying Facial Wash:

This scent free version is also free of harsh ingredients and contains hyaluronic acid, a very effective moisture binder, which prevents this clarifying formula from over drying.

Here is to you, the New Year and your new and improved skin!

Laughing, smiling and being happy are an essential part of my day. The only downside of this positive habit are the sneaky little lines and wrinkles that seem ever too eager to pop up around my eyes! I used to think eye care was only about the eye cream until I started working for Earth Science. I soon realized that my eye makeup remover could make quite a difference, too.

Once I tried Earth Science’s Chamomile & Green Tea Eye Makeup Remover, I realized what I had been missing! Jam-packed with nourishing and gentle ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and green tea, it actually seemed to help visibly improve the skin around and near my eyes.

For best results with this product (note that it has a more gel like consistency as opposed to liquid), apply it somewhat evenly on a cotton round. Close your eyes and leave the round gently pressed against the eyelid for a bit. You may need to swipe gently to remove excess makeup. Next, make sure to keep eye closed and rinse product and makeup off. Depending on the amount of makeup, you may reapply with another round.

Once you are finished, don’t forget your Active Age Defense i-cream!
