With so many skincare products on the market, it’s often difficult to know when and how to use them for maximum benefits. Figuring out whether serums go under or over your moisturizer doesn’t need to be complicated. We put together a step-by-step guide for normal to dry skin types that includes some of our favorite products.
Step 1 – Makeup Remover: Start by removing any makeup with a mild, non-irritating makeup removing solution and a cotton round. Our Chamomile & Green Tea Eye Makeup Remover gently dissolves stubborn mascara without tugging at delicate skin or leaving any residue behind.
Step 2 – Cleanser: Next, dampen face and gently massage a cleanser onto skin with clean hands or a washcloth. For a decadent and silky cleansing experience, try our Active Age Defense Whipped Cream Cleanser made with kukui and macadamia nut oils to create a luxurious velvety lather. Massage in a circular motion and rinse with warm water.
Step 3 – Toner: (Toning is an optional step, but beneficial and is often overlooked.) After patting skin dry, saturate a cotton round with an alcohol-free toner, like our Aloe Vera Complexion Toner & Freshener, to normalize your skin to its natural balance. Gently glide toner over face and neck. It prepares the skin to be more receptive to new sources of moisture and minimizes pores.
Step 4 – Serum: Once toning is complete, a small amount of serum can be dropped onto a fingertip to smooth gently into skin. Face, neck, and specific areas that need extra plumping and hydrating benefit from our Active Age Defense Maximum Hydration Hyaluronic Acid Serum by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making skin feel fresher, firmer, and more youthful-looking with each use.
Step 5 – Eye Cream: After serum has been applied, you’re ready for your moisturizers. Start with a gentle but effective eye cream, like the Active Age Defense i-cream, suitable for use under makeup. Our i-cream adds radiance to tired eyes, softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as reducing puffiness and dark circles.
Step 6 – Daytime Moisturizer & Sun Protection: A moisturizer with SPF is highly recommended to defend against harmful UVA and UVB rays daily. The Active Age Defense Protective Day Cream with natural minerals provides spf 30 protection with just a little amount of product.
Step 7 – Nighttime Moisturizer: Add long-lasting hydration to promote luminous tone and texture. At night, an overnight formula like our Active Age Defense Fruit Actives Perfecting Lotion works hard exfoliating and rejuvenating for that fresh morning glow.
Extra Steps: A skin masque, like our Papaya-Glycolic Radiant Skin Masque, can be used once a week to gently loosen dull skin cells, clear pores, and polish away impurities. Additionally, an exfoliator, like our Apricot Gentle Facial Scrub, can promote the development of new skin cells and leave skin soft and smooth when used one to two times a week.
Although these are our recommendations, it is important to remember that each person has different needs that may require a slight variation. Experimenting with different products and steps can help develop your perfect skincare routine. Contact us for recommendations.
