It’s pretty often that we’re reminded Mom was right. About (mostly) everything. To celebrate Mother’s Day, we’re sharing our five favorite beauty tips from Mom that were probably annoying at some point but are now—let’s face it—total truth. Thanks, moms!
1) Never go to sleep with makeup on
Makeup holds onto dirt and pollution. Not only does wearing it to bed contribute to breakouts and early aging, it stains our sheets! A gentle eye makeup remover like Chamomile & Green Tea Eye Makeup Remover does the hard work without irritating skin or sacrificing lashes, leaving nothing behind but room for pores to breathe.
2) Schedule time for “me” time
When we take the time to practice self-care, we can actually return to our work with an improved focus. Whatever it is that mentally or physically slows you down—journaling, meditating, flowing through a few sun salutations, or soaking in the tub with our Papaya Glycolic Radiant Skin Masque on—do that thing daily. That way, it becomes part of a routine, not a luxury or something to squeeze into your schedule.
3) Don’t wash your hair every day
Washing hair daily can actually strip locks of their natural oils, leading to dry, brittle strands—especially for coarse or curly hair types and processed hair. Try washing every other day or every three days. (This is where that wide-brimmed hat doubles in function!) To further strengthen and nourish hair, follow up after washing with a deep conditioning treatment like Olive & Avocado Hair Masque.
4) Have fun in the sun, but protect your skin
From lathering us in sunblock when we were kiddos to donning their fabulous wide-brimmed hats, moms know best. Sun damage is a significant precursor of skin cancer, not to mention a contributor of premature aging. For an everyday moisturizer with added SPF boost, our Almond-Aloe Moisturizer with SPF 15 is just the thing to hydrate the face and help protect it from UVB and UVA rays—without any harmful chemicals.
5) Get plenty of rest
They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing! Our skin cells turn over most rapidly at night, peaking around 2 am. The sooner we get to sleep at night, the faster our skin cells regenerate so skin can repair itself. Easier said than done, right? We try to be realistic. So thankfully, for mornings after long nights, there’s Azulene Eye Cream to combat puffiness and stubborn dark circles.
